Filming the trailer

For the filming of our trailer, we intended to use a camera provided by Josh, even though he had left our group, as he had said prior to leaving that he would, but we ended up using a camera provided by the school. We filmed in the school, out on the streets near the school, and in a pub called 'Ye Olde Sun' which is a few minutes walk from school. In one of our lessons, we went out onto on of  the schools fields with Jaks' drone, to film the shot of the school from above, which is shown over the news report voice over. when we filmed it however, the drone didn't have much charge, so we only had one attempt to get the footage we needed at that opportunity. this paired with the fact that we couldn't actually see what the drone was recording as it was recording it meant that we didn't know if we had usable footage until Jak checked the footage at home, as the schools computers don't have micro SD card readers, and we didn't have any adapters so that we could see the footage then and there. Unfortunately it then turned out that Jak couldn't check the footage either because he didn't have the necessary equipment to do so. To get around this, we just took one of the schools cameras and took it to the top of our schools sixth form block, and was able to get a good shot of the school from above that way. We filmed after school on a Wednesday, and the filming took about 2 1/2 - 3 hours to complete.

First draft for trailer

This is the first draft for our psychological thriller trailer:
We were aware before uploading this that we still need to work on the background music, add credits and other inter-titles, and that the start is too slow, and needs changing. The feedback we received from this told us that, as gave us some advice such as to not use the news report right at the start of the trailer, and to make the entire trailer non chronological, as opposed to what we currently had, where only the montage was non chronological. We were also told to include sound effects which we had forgotten about. We were also told to remove the scream from the end and replace it with another shot that we had filmed and not thought we could use.

News report for our trailer

Here is the voice recording that we are going to play at the start of our film trailer to help create tension from the start of the trailer. We recorded it using a voice recorder provided by the school.

Settings for our trailer

Here we have some pictures of some of the different places we hope to film in when filming our film trailer:

Adapting to a team member leaving

Just as we were about to get to the stage where we could start filming, Josh, one of our group of 3, drops the subject, leaving just me and Jak. He had briefly mentioned that he was considering it the previous week, but i hadn't thought he'd go through with it so soon. When i found this out, it did quite annoy me as he'd given us hardly any warning, he had said that he was going to get hold of the camera we were going to use do that we could have effects such as pull focus, so we would have to find another camera, or use one of the schools ones. We had recently changed the production company logo so that it was a combination of our three names, so that will have to be changed again.

Title design for our trailer

For the design of the title for our trailer, we knew that we wanted something that looked handwritten, so using Photoshop, Jak created multiple ideas for the title:

A poll was then created on a website called strawpoll.com, and then the three of us and some friends voted on which one we liked best:

Target Audience and USP

The target audience for our film trailer is young adults and people in their late teens. We chose this demographic because people of this age are the people who stereo-typically enjoy thrillers the most. We will also probably aim more at the male audience as again, they are stereotyped as liking this type of film more than females.

The Unique selling point (USP) of our film is that from the point that the montage starts, there will be a lot of tension, the audience will be aware that someone dies from the news report at the start, but they don't know who, as multiple people disappear throughout during the trailer, so they will be trying to figure that out, and when they find out that only one person was the killers target, they suspicion will only heighten.

Third and final draft of the trailer

Here is the third and final draft of our trailer for our psychological thriller, called 'Sharpie'
