Film magazine cover analysis

The pug in the corner is of a drawing from a filmmakers sketchbook, with the heading ‘GREATEST MOVIE ART EVER, TOP FILMMAKERS SHOW US THEIR SKETCHBOOKS’ This will entice people into reading the magazine, as people like to read about behind the scenes aspects of film making.

The title, of the magazine ‘Total Film’ is in big bold letters to capture the attention of people looking at it. The letter ‘L’ is obscured by an image of Leonardo DiCaprio, showing that he is of main focus in the magazine. We can also see the website and price of the magazine above the letter ‘M’

The image of Leonardo DiCaprio in the center of the page is taken from the film ‘Shutter Island’, as this is the main film being shown off on the front cover of the magazine. In the image, Leonardo DiCaprio is walking towards the camera, looking at the ground. He is wearing a shirt with smart trousers, a tie that is scruffy, a long coat, and a police badge on his belt. He is also carrying a revolver in his hand, and from all these clues people will be able to tell that this is probably from the film, and that he did not pose for this photo.

On the sides of the magazine cover, there are hints as to what else is in the magazine, such as a list of three films that have been reviewed in this magazine, and on the other side, it has a picture of one of the characters' faces from Avatar, and a quote underneath it saying 'It's got everything!' This tells people that there is something about avatar in the magazine.

Underneath the title of the magazine, it says 'DiCaprio exclusive' words such 'exclusive', 'greatest' and 'inside' entice people to read the magazine, as people like to think that they are reading something that no-one else knows.

The colours used it the magazine cover are mainly subtle shades of blue and dark colours in the background, witht the writing it big bold red and whitelettering to make it stand out if someone were to glance at it, or if it was in among other magazines.
